french folded with embossing details
original price 25 cents
Happy Birthday!
May this be a sunny day
Beneath a sky of blue~
May it be a day
When dreams and wishes
All come true!
a beautiful card,
with a touching personal reflection on
greeting card etiquette:

"Hi, Little Sis,
They tell me you are
 having a birthday,
you know I have never had to look
out for anything like this,
for
when my Sweet heart
was here
she'd take care
 of everything.
But I hope you have a nice birthday.
I am sorry I haven't been over to see Art,
but last Sat & Sunday I worked all day,
and then I took down with the flue,
but hope to be seeing you soon.
Love to you both from,
Brother Joe"

80th Birthday

this photo shows three lovely ladies. Apparently, the smiling lady all the way on the right is the Birthday girl!
These two photos I have collected
showing greeting cards displayed.
I couldn't find a date noted, but the
type of photo paper indicates the early 1940s.
 I love their display!
Candles, plants, letters, photos
and what looks to be a
dessert pastry in the shape of the #80!
a close look at the card display reveals the occasion

The other two pretty ladies are probably her daughters,
they  look like sisters to me!
I can see one card reads, "Birthday Greetings"
and another says "80".
The photos, in the display, are accompanied by letters,
maybe from loved ones who couldn't visit that day.
I can only imagine the details,
but Mother looks pleased with the display!
 beautiful lace collar!
I love to collect old photos that show the
creative ways which greeting cards are displayed.
here are the responses from a recent
survey about saving and displaying greeting cards.
THANK YOU! to everyone who took time to be included in the survey!!

RESPONSES from a Vintage Recycling survey

All of the respondents to the survey save greeting cards.
>18% saved ALL (or nearly ALL) the cards they receive.
>55% Saved special cards or cards from special occasions
>27% saved cards in a "random" manner

Cards were reported to be stored in a variety of ways, including:
protective sleeves, organized in binders, bins or boxes,
stashed in drawers and pinned up on walls. One respondent has them in storage boxes under her bed as well as,  at the foot and head of her bed...thought that was just me!
Several people noted they used special stationary
 or decorative boxes.
Some keep them around randomly in drawers, on shelves and such.
One respondent even uses them for bookmarks!

40% displayed their cards.
0 used a card displaying product, like a card tree.
40% set special cards around the house on holidays or birthdays
10% hang their cards
30% pin them up on bulletin boards
20% frame cards

1940s Hallmark Rufftex

"What kind of a card do you want?"the clerk said, But me, I said nothing and looked straight ahead...
I couldn't come out and just tell her, you see, For she was an absolute stranger to me...... So while she kept staring and standing near by I kept right on waiting without saying why....
Because, well, you see ~~ I had sort of a hunch Before very long she might go out to lunch! .... I looked at the cards that said "Greetings to Mother" and "Father" and "Uncle" and "Sister" and "Brother"
And watched for a chance when the clerk wasn't near And grabbed this one labeled "To Somebody Dear!" ..... "There's no need to wrap it," I said to the clerk~~ So proud and so pleased with my half a day's work....
And now I'm sure hoping that you'll like it, too, FOR IT'S JUST THE CARD THAT I WANTED FOR YOU!

Beautifully illustrated early 1900s Birthday invitation postcard ..... adorable little girl sitting at table with her dolly...birthday cake and roses on the table..... "Come and join me at my birthday party.....Date....... I will be..... years old......Name.....Address....."

this humorous circa 1920s art deco flat card, litho on heavy stock~ has golden details, it reads,

"FORGOT? GUESS NOT!!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY"

these two flat cards, dated 1928 have similar (wonderful) classic deco graphics and are likely from the same card line, they both have minty green, shades of pink, blue and black printing as well as golden edge details......

#1 has a little bird cage and pretty flowers...I love how the cage is empty and the blue birds are perched outside :) it reads
"On Your Birthday ....Today I'd like to say 'Hello', and 'Good for You', and 'Hope You'll know A year of gladness and success and health and luck and happiness"

#2 beautiful roses, it reads, "Birthday Greetings ....I wish You Happy Birthday! I'm hoping, too, somehow, That you'll contrive To be alive A hundred years from now" .....it was given 82 years ago!

another charming flat, heavy stock card from the same era, this little blue card has birds which are caged and uncaged! "Happy Birthday, Friend ...Since 'abody has 'abody Who really is a friend ...On a Birthday shan't 'abody Happy Greetings send?"

so cute ~ this little birthday greeting has die cut detail and is on heavy stock~
as with the other cards it is charming right down to the pretty font, colorful details and sentimental greeting

"Happy Birthday Little Girl!"

"I've a very special greeting
