A Special card for you alone

Another card from my "greeting card theme cards" collection, for Mother's day. This tall card has a heart die-cut embellishment on a spring mounted inside with a cute "Mom" illustrated. So cute, the little guy illustrated on the cover is holding this card. Made by Rust Craft Pub c. 1950s

I HUNTED VERRA HARD FOR A SPECIAL GET WELL CARD

slide the purse and the bear's head moves back-and-forth

mechanical get well card made by Norcross, french fold, die-cut detail with cute

greeting cards illustrated

on the cover,

as well as, inside. circa 1940s

"The 5 cent type said, 'GET WELL, PLEASE' ~ The 10 cent - 'MAKE IT SNAPPY' ....So, 15 cents should bring you health And keep you feeling happy"

cleverly using the verse to promote buying higher priced cards...believe me that's no coincidence! The greeting card industry worked(s) hard on promotion at every level.

On Monday I heard of your accident and today I talked to Joe and Bob at U. of P. Schoolmen's Wk. exhibit. I'm glad you are home and hope you will have a rapid recuperation! You will now have the rest you needed after N.Y., etc.
Saw Barney today~streamlined and looking better then I seen him look for a long time. Bill B, Henry K, J. Far, are among the "Ambassadors of Good Pencils" no exhibits!
No Worries! And they are enjoying it!
Take care of yourself and you'll be 'up and at it' again. Don't eat too much. Best wishes, Helen

Mother's Day is Paramount!

yay Moms! Mother's Day in the USA (and MANY other countries) is celebrated on the SECOND SUNDAY in MAY, this year it falls on May 8, 2011
in the UK MOTHERING SUNDAY is observed on the fourth Sunday of Lent, which was April 3, 2011 and will be March 18th in 2012

PARAMOUNT

Based in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, Paramount ~ Paramount Line is one of the earliest greeting card companies in USA

1906 Rhode Island, the Markoff brothers Samuel and Charles started their business publishing a small line of art calendars..within a few years they began integrating greeting cards into their products and soon after they discontinued calendars and focused on building the Paramount card empire.

Ernest Dudley Chase, in Rust Craft's book, the Romance of Greeting Cards,

observed that, "it is generally conceded, also, that the PARAMOUNT LINE

was the first to use SATIN PUFFS or SACHET BAGS on Cards"

Paramount Cards are so adorable and creative!

Unfortunately, they closed their doors about 5 yrs ago :(

Gold Crown found at local thrift shop!

Mom and I went junk'n recently......
junk'n with my mother is not for the faint-at-heart! Her combined energy and knowledge makes for an EPIC and INFORMATIVE day! Mom has been dealing antiques all my life and pretty much all of hers, too! We covered 4 counties, hitting 9 of our favorite thrift shops! so FUN!

like all good "JUNK BRATS" it is not uncommon to find me digging through boxes, crawling around in dusty~musty places and rescuing discarded treasures.....

here is one of my FINDS from our day of hunting.........

circa 1980s Hallmark Gold Crown wrapping paper!

The Hallmark Gold Crown is, of course, recognized worldwide and symbolizes the "very best"!
in 1949 Hallmark began using the five-point gold crown

soooo.... I was inspired to pull some more Hallmark wrapping paper examples from my ~~piles~~ collection :)

too adorable... what a Birthday cake! Happy Birthday "A Hallmark Wrapping"...original price 25 ¢

Hallmark used strips of the same printed paper to make their label and wrap around the sheets for packaging

"Brides Lace" 2 sheets 25 ¢

The Hall Brothers essentially fell into "inventing" what we think of as modern day gift wrap. In the early 1900s solid color tissue papers were used to "dress" packages. As the story goes..... the Hall Brothers ran out of this gift paper during the busy 1917 Christmas season and resorted to selling sheets of pretty decorative French envelope lining papers, which were well received by their customers and sold out quickly! The Brothers began printing their own sheets of decorative wrapping papers.
