...what a long name! I did find them listed in the 1909 Trow Directory, within the Printing and Bookbinding section. which noted the "name was discontinued" ..maybe they shortened it?!

 Mailing Christmas cards is, of course, a cherished tradition.
It is estimated over 1.5 BILLION cards are sent annually!  that's A LOT of cards to keep track of!
nowadays, we have the aid of electronics to send us reminders, keep track of address, heck you can even have your cards automatically signed, stamped, and mailed if you like! Most of us still do it at least partially the old fashioned way, pen to paper, tongue to envelope flap:)

many companies, throughout the years,  have offered different aids to record and track greeting card traffic

here's a hard cover "Greeting Card Guide" published 1943 by H J Hailman

it includes sections for birthdays,  anniversaries, and holidays, too

there are pages for charting addresses, as well as when cards are sent and received ...

in 1916, William E. Coutts founded the William E. Coutts Company, Limited in Toronto, Canada. It is said he was equipped with only 125 designs and 10 employees. He sold cards across Canada for decades. In 1948 Coutts entered into a gentleman's agreement with Joyce Hall (founder of Hall Brothers (eventually Hallmark....) to purchase partial interest in Coutt's company, Limited then, in 1958, Hall acquired the rest, making it a wholly owned subsidiary of Hallmark Cards, Inc.

1940s Mother's Day Rust Craft Cowboy Greeting Card

Rust Craft Publishers is another of the great old card companies that was founded by brothers. Fred Winslow Rust opened a one-room bookshop in Kansas City, September 1906. He published his first greeting card just one month later. His brother Donald, joined him in 1907 and by summertime they had published their own line of cards.

Die~cut in the shape of an apron with real cotton gingham apron strings

blue, pink, and yellow, as well as golden details~like on the hankie ruffle.....

the front reads,

"TO MOTHER'S APRON STRINGS"





inside you can see the die~cuts that allow the "apron strings" to be threaded through........


and the most adorable sentiment........

"Tho' Life has taught us all to prize~

Both Lover's knots and friendship ties~

Today my heart it's homage brings~

Not more than half a yard in length~

I have always been an avid Holly Hobbie fan....what little girl raised in the 70s wasn't?!
The nostalgic country rag doll in her patchwork dress and blue bonnet....with braids (my sweet mother replaced the braids on mine countless times!) I lugged my beloved Holly Hobbie doll EVERYWHERE...... at three she was lifesized to me!:)

Holly Hobbie.....she is named for her creator.... a housewife and art school graduate, who in the 1960s, sent her sketches to American Greetings in hopes of making some extra money..... what a lucky day for American Greetings!:)

inside........"Thanks, Mom, for being everything to me."Holly Hobbie's work is known for being nostalgic and sweet~ evoking simpler times....days gone by....early America........ her work started with her sending her sketches into American Greetings and grew into a huge empire. In the 1970s girls would even dress as Holly Hobbie and have contests! My childhood is filled with memories of Holly Hobbie toys, cards, I even had a Holly Hobbie purse which I once left in a restaurant and my father rushed me back to so I could frantically look for it! (yes, I found it:) ).....

these are some specialty envelopes for Holly Hobbie cards...... as you can see, the white envelope has the American Greetings flower logo embossed ........the pastel pink and green envelopes have embossed flowers, hearts and Holly's trademark "HH" and a pretty scalloped edge.
