"Here's one party that will be frankly romantic!"

1959 Party Perfect Scholastic TAB book

what does it take to have the perfect party?! Well, in 1959, at least according to the folks at Scholastic, it involved perfect planning by the "hostess with the mostest!"
....YES it actually says "hostess with the mostest"!

Every good Sweetheart party has a romantic theme "The accent is on sweethearts and sentimentality"
#1 invite guests ......... their invitation idea:
Ask your best friends to wear their hearts on their sleeves at
your home on that well-feted February 14th LITERALLY!
♥Write out invitations on RED HEART CUT OUTS
-one side carries all the pertinent facts about when and where, also instructions to 'bring your heart along'
-the other side has the guests NAME in LARGE Letters ...thereby creating a name tag
"Since this party MUST have boys,
plan your guest list with an equal number of guys and gals..."
haha the text is cracking me up, but hey that's a cute idea!

they had their party games planned, too! this book suggests
"ROMANTIC RHYMES"
this is an add a line game ...five minutes and the team with the longest poem wins!
"Valentine, if you'll be mine, the sun will shine, and I'll feel fine...."

"ELOPEMENT"
the guests race through a dress-up game.... the bag is packed to run off and elope on a rainy night... galoshes, gloves, raincoat, umbrella ...each player has to dress themselves run around the chair once , undress, repack the bag...all without making a sound (sneaking off to elope..get it?!)

What was on the menu??

I totally did NOT guess this menu.....

TUNA TOMATOES
TOSSED SALAD
BUTTER ROLLS
PICKLES and OLIVES
and a VALENTINE MARASCHINO CAKE!

♥MORE VALENTINES TOMORROW!♥

1960s vending machine Beatles Record!

Last weekend my dear Mother
was texting me frantically from an estate sale.to get my booty over there!... three days later we emerged and started looking through all the boxes of treasures we bought to see what was actually there!!! (yes, we went home at night but too exhausted to unpack everything!) have you been to a sale like that? it's awesome
AAnnnyyywhooo...... long story short .... at the VERY end of the sale I ended up grabbing a projector and some discs I THOUGHT went with it.........
fast forward 2 later that night......... started checking out the projector and opened the little blue folder and saw "REVOLUTION THE BEATLES" ........hhhhhhmmmmmm?! this doesn't go with the projector!
here's what I found........

did you know they tried to market mini records in vending machines?!  If you didn't, don't feel too bad, it didn't take much to miss the very brief period these little discs were offered...1968-69...less then two years!  Americom Corporation of New York introduced a new music format for singles called the pocket disc.  Some came in little blue or red cardboard folders and they were sold at the counter or in special vending machines.

3.75" diameter!
Those were the Days Mary Hopkins

Mary Hopkins was one of the first artists
the Beatles signed to their Apple label
